Larry never dreamed of becoming a singer-songwriter, he just sorta always was…
Larry is an acclaimed singer-songwriter, steeped in the roots of Folk, Rock, Rhythm and Blues, as well as Country and Jazz. Larry’s words and music have been heavily influenced by those who came before, and without whose music Larry might never have found his own voice, singing and playing from his heart.
Larry made his on-stage debut at the tender age of four, playing and singing ata local talent contest in his hometown of Mountain View, California. His dad, had taught him his first 3 chords on the ukulele, along with a popular song about unrequited love, which apparently moved, or perhaps amused, the judges to award him first prize that day. Larry’s memories of the contest are sketchy, but he has never forgotten the warm feeling he got playing to his first live audience.
In high school, Larry’s rock band, Lil’ Boys Blue, became a popular combo performing locally at school dances, teen centers and at numerous debauched frat parties. Here, the band would experience many firsts, that did not necessarily involve music. Local performances were soon followed by too-many-to-count gigs in and out of state, where they made their bones as a traveling band.
From there it was on to the now legendary Golden State Recorders in San Francisco to cut their first original records, including the release of “I’m Not There.” Local and regional radio stations were flooded with requests to play the 45rpm record (thanks to friends, family and followers) which led to offers to also open for some of the greats of the day, including Credence Clearwater Revival and The Dave Clark Five. A promotional tour was set up by the band’s management, and off they went to fulfill their destiny, which apparently included the band crashing and burning, somewhere on the road to somewhere else. And so, it was off to find a day job for Larry.
